I am about to graduate from college and have looked into jobs with the Bureau of Land Management. My question is, what is it like to live in Wyoming?

Weather doesn't bother my husband or I.

I am going to graduate with a B.S. in Wildlife and Conservation Management. My husband is extensively experienced in carpentry, mechanics, electric, plumbing, and has his CDL (class B drivers license). He is also interested in oil field work.

For the most part, we've got running food, water, sanitation, and shelter. Sometimes the wind blows. Sometimes, it doesn't. Sometimes it's cold. Sometimes, it's not.

Absent your input on the concerns that you have about living here ... or anywhere else ... it's rather difficult to answer your question in a meaningful way.

Otherwise, I'd suggest that you might read through the forum and see what questions other folks had about Wyoming and the responses ....

It's great! Look at Sweetwater County.

I like it, and if weather didn't bother me I'd like it a lot more.

Wyoming is a LOT different from Texas!

I'd say the biggest obstacle for most people is the weather!! It snows quite a bit, it's very windy and something is just WRONG about breathing in through your nose and feeling your nose hairs freeze! ha ha But, Wyoming people don't let the snow or ice stop them. We don't have "snow days" here like in other places. If it's snowing we just get through it. AWD or 4X4 is a good thing - we have them but there are people here who don't and they still get around.

The altitude is also an issue - the air is thin (you will get acclimated though) and cooking takes a little longer and cakes don't taste quite right unless you buy them already made.

The outdoors is wonderful! Wyoming is a beautiful place and there are mountains, lakes, plains - in the spring the lilacs and the wild flowers are soooo breathtaking! If you have kids - I think we have amazing schools. (I live in Laramie). If you're a hunter this is hunter's paradise!!!! And if you're working for the BLM you'll have the inside scoop on the good hunting spots, right? Or is that more of a Game and Fish thing?

Mostly - the people are great. I love how hard working and God Fearing this state is. It is a wonderful place... Can you tell I like it?

I'm with you, WyoHills! I've lived in quite a few places all over the country in my life. Despite the [sometimes] wind and [usually] long winters, I love living in Wyoming best. Great people, beautiful scenery, tons of history; it has everything I need. I'm never leaving.
