There's a new Super Wal-Mart on the west side of Scotts Bluff NE, about 30 miles east of Torrington on Route 26.

The closest thing to Wal_Mart in Torrington is the Pamida store, which is kinda like the earliest Wal-Marts -- small and limited selection, but OK in a pinch.

The quickest way to do a preliminary check is via the city web site:

Default Racechick- I need advice

My husband and I feel the same as you. He is taking a job in Salt Lake City Utah and we would rather live on the border between Utah and Wyoming, but have no clue as to which towns to live. I am in the same boat as you- 3 kids under the age of 8. Have you gotten any info on towns near the border of Utah? Any help would be appreciated.

The only private school I'm familiar with is tiny (but academically outstanding) Valley Christian, Grades K-6, but the public schools are small and excellent. Lincoln Elementary is brand new and there's a new middle school on the way.

"Liberal attitudes" will absolutely not be a problem here.
I agree with sixofone - great schools, either the private one or public ones are excellent, as is evidenced by state test scores. I would encourage you to consider Torrington - the weather is mild in the winter and I personally am hoping more "transplants" move here so fellow transplants like myself will have new friends.

I was a bit puzzled by sixofone's quote that liberal attitudes will absolutely not be a problem here. Wow - I'd like to meet the group you hang with. I am middle of the road to liberal and have to be extremely careful many people here don't find that out - I have been lamblasted at work and in social circles for my views. Please guide me to the liberal get-togethers!

No, haven't done any research down there. We are actually moving to Lincoln, Nebraska now. Actually, we don't want to live in Lincoln (waaay too big) but instead have found some nice little towns within 15-20 minutes of Lincoln. I was actually voting for Wyoming, but I'm thinking we'll like NE. Good luck to you guys!

To best town in Wyoming

For my money from this guy in PA the best town is Huelett. My family and I were eating at a restaurant there and talking to a few cowboys at the next table who, upon discovering we were heading to Yellowstone, told us about Bear Tooth Pass which started in Montanta and ended in Wyoming. And it was on our way. We took them up on it and the natural beauty was fantastic. This happened back in 2004. I sent a postcard of thanks from your friends in Pennsylvania and was never sure they got it. I sent it to the restaurant where we ate. They didn't have this forum back then, or at least I didn't know about it. Anyway I just wanted to say thanks again for creating such a great memory of a great trip across your beautiful state. From PA where you can color me green with envy.

There is only one border town with access to Salt Lake - and that is Evanston Wyoming - at mile-marker 3 thru 6 in WY. It's usually a 1hr40minute drive - negotiable most days.
Forty miles west of Evanston is Coalville, UT and if you can find a suitable house (good luck), it's about 45 minutes out.
After that, you have the overcrowded and very expensive Park City, Utah - a half-hour or so out, depending on where you actually live.
About 15 minutes drive-time farther out (east) is Heber City ... which was a fairly nice small town 25 years ago ... but is now in the sprawl.
Best schools are in Park City - that's where the money is.

"Best schools are in Park City - that's where the money is."

I guess they're keeping it a secret that there's a lot of money in Heber City .... a beautiful little valley area with good schools, too.

Some well known horse breeders have nice operations based there .... world class. You know you're in a big money area when LFG stud fees are in 6 figure range.
