Hello,

I wanted to know if anyone had any information about good/bad school districts in the Casper area. We have 2 children, and one will be heading into school next year. We have read some information about the schools there, but the schools websites were not very helpful. I guess we want parent input on which schools hold up the best in the area. Thanks!

There are several good grade schools in Casper. There is only one district in Natrona County and it is an open enrollment district. That means that you can enroll I any school no matter where you live. So where you decide to live does not dictate your school.

The draw back is that there has to be room for your student in the school you choose. The enrollment process for next year is under way right now so it would be a good idea to decide which schools you are interested in and chack availability with the district.

To begin with determine what type of learning style fits your kids and what level of involvement you will have in the school. I would be happy to give specifics on the schools their philosophies and characteristics but not on a public forum for obvious reasons. You can PM me and I will help you with how the district works and who to contact to start the enrollment process.

The School District has a good website:

I can't imagine any school being any better than the next. Our schools are well funded and our teachers get a respectable pay, so our schools are on a pretty level playing field. There may be some personality differences in the teachers, but I've never heard anything bad about any one particular school. But, I don't live there, so hopefully a local can chime in and help you out.

Welcome to Wyoming, where are you coming from? If you are coming from New Yawk, or "like" California, you don't have to admit it if you don't want to.

Although I have not been to West Virginia, I did several projects in Virginia.

You know your biggest challenge is going to be distance. When we say, "Down the road a piece". The "Piece" is a whole lot further than what you are used to. From Casper, it's 70 miles or so to the next town going North. Going West it's 90 miles to a town that is more than a wide spot in the road. Going South, it's 116 miles to the next town that is more than a single gas station and 2 houses.

Also, are you ready for the cold?

I've lived in Wyoming for 40+ years, skied, hiked, hunted, tent camped and watched football in -20F weather, but I'm NEVER ready for the cold!

I'd always planned to be a snowbird when I got old, but then I got old and poor at the same time.
