We are in the process of putting a small wind turbine on our property now. There are quite a few small turbines in Wyoming designed primarily for residential use and not commercial applications. More and more of them are starting to crop-up. Wind is one of our abundant natural resources. It's free to obtain, there isn't any production cost other than the turbine itself, and eco-friendly . The turbines are fairly economical to install and can reduce your electric bill by half or more, depending on the size of the turbine and your power consumption. Typical payback/amortization is about 10 years give or take. There are some renewable energy tax-credit programs that can significantly reduce that "payback time" however.

The "wind farms" you are referring to are large, commercial application ventures. And yes, they are growing in number, all over the State.

I was talking with WY-USDA last week and they are quite 'gun-shy' of the sage grouse issue. They mentioned that there is limited 'wind-farm' area available in WY, free from restrictions.

Sounds like SE Wyo is OK. I'd keep flying into Denver. DE might be a better place than WY if you don't have a job. Might consider northern CO as a transition place, but get a job 1st.
