I know this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find any postings from anyone in/around Afton that has non-LDS children...

My husband and I are thinking of moving there (we have jobs) but are non-LDS and have small children. I have heard strange things about how non-LDS kids are treated in school, in primarily LDS communities. We are pretty much live and let live, small town kind of people, and LOVE the outdoors, but I couldn't bring my kids up in a place where they will be ostracized because of religion.

So any non-LDS parents out there in Star Valley want to chime in?

I'd appreciate it!

I live in Star Valley, no kids and non LDS.

My boss has lived here and raised his kids who now have kids in the system. All non LDS.
It is not a problem. The rumors are just that rumors.

That is very good to hear paintersspouse. I lived in Laramie for 7 years and am missing WY big time, so am looking forward to getting back there.

Do you know what range "starter" homes (2-3 bedrooms) go for in Afton/Star Valley?

One of the local characters is a Baptist minister, with a lot of UW cowboy fans he is of all things a BYU cougar fan. He supports the community, you see him at a high school football, basket ball or wrestling match with his radio headphones on listening to away games or BYU. A few stores on Main Street are owned by Jehovah Witnesses (easy to tell as there are no painted store fronts on the 4th of July or before the kids go to regional or state tournaments. Another part of Main Street the business is Baha’i, plus two Mexican restraints owned by Mexicans and Main Street survives.
Our Cow herder in the minister at a large non denomination Church in Thayne there is a Small Catholic, a Presbyterian/Lutheran church and a few other denominations here. Yes the majority is LDS but for the most part everybody gets along. But for a community to work you have too.

I grew up here in Wyoming, and kept company with most everyone back in school, both LDS and non. I never had a problem with the LDS kids. If you and your children are live and let live kind of people, you should do fine. I'm not LDS, but I've found if you tell the vast majority of LDS folks you're not overly interested in a religious discussion, they're happy to leave it at that.
