I am a single parent relocating to the Charlotte area or to the Fort Mill,SC from Rocky Mount,NC. I have three kids and am going through a divorce. I would like to move to an area with affordable rent-850 is my max. and good schools*kids are 11, 8, and 3. I will not be able to move until July 2011, but I'm not familiar with either areas. I am a nurse and should not have a problem finding work, but I just want to do some thorough research. If anyone has ANY advice it would be most helpful in making my decision.-Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about Fort Mill but in Charlotte it would be hard to find a $850/month home in a nice area with good schools. You would need to spend at least $950-$1000.

As ive suggested before... I have a 2 bedroom apartment 1100 sq ft in Peachtree Place Apts in Fort Mill for $710 a month. Kid friendly, great community and location, just not dog friendly. I love it here, and would recommend it all day.

Check out the condo communities in Fort Mill there are several. Condo rental is running as far as I can see about the same price as an apartment. Condo's are quieter, you usually have parking right near your own door etc. The condo's that are rental units where I live at go for 800 to 900 2 to 3 bedrooms 2 to 3 bathrooms, and pool access. Having lived in an apartment when I first move to the Charlotte metro area, I wish I would have realized I could have rented a condo for the same amount. Matter of fact if I realized I could have rented a condo that easily, I would have never bought.
