Hello! I have moved to Mooresville/Lake Norman area from PA (originally from KS, so not another northerner moving south!) and I am thrilled to be here!

As I look ahead to next summer when my lease is up, I am thinking about the Lake Wylie/Ft Mill/Tega Cay area to buy a house versus the area where I am now. I know taxes are lower in SC, which is a plus, and I have a little boy to consider schools, which I hear are also good in both areas.

I do feel like this area is one long suburb, with no real town. Is that different in the Lake Wylie area?

Again, happy to be here and planning to stay!
Stacy

Hey , and welcome to the area !! When I moved here 6 years ago from Orange County, CA, I first looked in the Lake Norman area, (everyone said I should look up there). But it felt too much like OC to me. The TRAFFIC for sure -- but just the general feel. I ended up in Mint Hill (SE Charlotte) and about 4 years ago, landed in Tega Cay. Definitely look down here...especially if you have a child. not only -- as you mentioned -- are taxes lower, good schools, but I am still SO amazed at the small town feel. I thought those days had gone,...maybe it was too many years in CA. But parades, local events, fundraisers... someone in the community needs help -- everyone is there to help. Summer evening concerts -- where toddlers, teens, tweens, parents and seniors all have a good time together. Fort Mill is a wonderful community too ... (trying to find it's way from small-mill-town to trendy-artsy-carefully-growing-town.) Come spend some time down this way, and see what you think.

Have you been to downtown Mooresville? Def' a "real" town, and continuing to add new stores and restaurants.

But please keep in mind that not all Northeasterners are obnoxious or whatever else these types of comments can imply. A number of us (including this native Pennsylvanian) are kind, considerate, salt-of-the-earth people who make great neighbors, whether we've grown up somewhere or not.

I'm from a small town in NH and I'm looking for the same small town feel in SC. Glad to hear there are places down south like Tega Cay. Not all Northeasterners are bad. There are many country folk up here that are kind and considerate hard workers just like you guys.

Not all Northeasterners are bad; some of us are NY Yankee fans.
