irrigation on twice a week and we get a huge bill. Our neighbors is 250. Of course we turned it completely off. Is this normal for york county? We live in fort mill and was told by the water company to install a irrigation meter or pump.

Yes this is about right. I would have York install the second meter so you will only be charged the water that you use not sewer.

The water here is RIDICULOUS! I lived in Southern California - you know - the DESERT part and my water bill was only $18/month. In upstate New York I used to pay $24 QUARTERLY. I see absolutely no reason why water should be so high here! I think it's disgusting!

I live in a 2br apartment, and my water/sewer bill is never more then $70. $350/month is insane. How much yard do you have?

The square footage is 5000 sq and its mostly concrete, circular driveway and the side is a large driveway to hold 2 cars.

is it carolina water service? we're in lake wylie and ours is regularly in the $200-250 range. I would ask them to come and make sure you don't have a leak. I also have 2 kids and tons of laundry. The water in this area is ridiculous!

Ummm... I dunno what's different about where I live (south end of Lake Wylie) but for our family of 5, our water bill is about $55/month without irrigation. In the summer we run our irrigation daily, but only for 10 minutes per day, and then our water bills were around $110. We were watering twice a day last month to keep our grass seed damp, and our bill was $235, and I thought that was astronomical (for us).

Just for comparision, I lived in So Cal and our water bills were about $55/month with irrigation but a very tiny yard. In Ohio, they were about $45/month without irrigation. In Wisconsin they were about $40/month without irrigation. For me, water bills are a little higher here than other places I have lived, but not in the range that the OP is talking about. That seems VERY high to me.

My father lived in Carowoods subdivision behind the Food Lion near Gold Hill and 160.
Half the neighborhood was on well water.
The other half were on public water through Utilities Inc.
His bill was never over $75-$80.

When I moved out of his house to Rock Hill, I feared a $75 water bill myself.
So, I called Utilities, Inc. and asked them their service area.

They DO serve Tega Cay too.

My water bill is a part of my electric bill, so I do not have to pay the $60 base fee, that my father paid. When his house was vacant, and no usage, the bill was right near $60 with no water used.

The water usage is only about $1.?? per many hundreds of gallons (maybe even 1000), so if someone has a bill over $100 something is wrong.

Utilities Inc.

click on "about us" for service map and you see S.C. and Tega Cay.

As far as why 50% of the neighborhood was on a well or not, I think my father said at some point everyone had a choice. However, once a certain street was on the public water, any vacant lots that sold after that were on Utilities Inc. too. And he built his house in 1982 and was one of the first ones on his street.

Call them and maybe switch service providers.

My father watered his 1000 square foot vegetable garden like clock work, so I can not see a sprinkler system creating a $250 + bill.
