Ok, I have heard the two places mentioned in tandem but I am still researching where would be more family friendly, safer, more things to do, amenities, etc. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Fort Mill is safer. Rock Hill has more amenities. Both are family friendly.

Rock Hill is larger than Fort Mill. I believe the one poster who said it is less safe could mean that because it's larger, there's a tendency for more bad areas, but it has some VERY nice areas, too - just like any large town. Amenities-wise, I wouldn't necessarily say Rock Hill has more. In actuality, Fort Mill is closer to Charlotte, NC where there are amenities galore. Fort Mill is no hick town, but it does have small town charm.

I think as far as being in the family way, Fort Mill has the better school system. But in Rock Hill you get more bang for your buck (i.e. - a $220,000 house in fort mill would be around $190,00 in Rock Hill - just a figure I've noticed when comparing new subdivisions by the same builders in both areas.).

Truthfully, I prefer Fort Mill, but I can't knock Rock Hill. You may want to check out Tega Cay (really a part of Fort Mill), too.

Good luck!

Do a search in the Charlotte Observer for stories in Rock Hill and you will get a good feel for what goes on there.
Of course the whole city isn't like that, there are some very nice areas. But I prefer Fort Mill by a long shot, and that was where I chose to live.
If you budget is more in the line of Rock Hill, you should be able to find a nice place.
