Is there anyone out there that has moved from South Florida to the Rock Hill South Carolina area - that absolutely hates it here and would want to go back to Florida???
Just curious - because some Floridians seem to have alot of negative things to say about South Carolina, their Schools, and North Carolina in general etc....saying theres nothing to do here, no jobs, and the schools are the worst.
Even though I disagree, I was wondering if anyone else had any opinions.

Hi - I am actually a realtor, and believe it or not over half my closings in the past six months have been buyers from Florida (which continues to surprise me). They all are leaving behind the hurricanes, insurance hikes, and "snowbirds" and all except one grumpy man have seemed very happy here...

I say
If they don't like it, maybe they should go back. Every place is not right for every person. I am sure that most of them are not native Floridians (perhaps from the north) and they did not like the slower pace. Just a guess though.
I am a native Floridian moving to Fort Mill in the spring. Looking forward to the change. I am counting the days!

We are from South Florida (Miami) we just came back from Greenville last week and loved it. Its very different from Florida but much more affordable and everyone is friendly. I was surprised with the selection of restaurants, I thought there would be less things to do. I'm looking foward to relocating to Greenville but everyone is different.

We are from Naples, Florida
We are looking into the Clemson and Anderson area. I am born and raised in Naples, 45 years! Sometimes us "natives" need a little change of scenery! Hot and humid climate without a brake, can be a bit much at times as well as the flat land, out of control prices on everything and growing way too fast! We are looking to move out next year when the market picks up a bit so we can sell our home. A slower paced lifestyle can be refreshing and healthy!! Good luck to all out there trying to leave Florida! PRAY ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!:

Hey there
I just re-read my post above and realized I sounded a little on the cocky side. Sorry about that...what a difference a day makes.
I was born and raised in South Florida. I am 31. I have lived in Palm Beach County for 26 years (we moved from Fort Lauderdale when I was 5). My husband and I currently live in Delray Beach.
We decided to make the move to the Carolinas after Wilma hit last year. We just had it with losing power for 10 days at a time (this was the third time in two years) and the chaos, distruction and mess that came with it. We are starting a family soon and we will need a bigger home than the 1500 sq.ft. house we have now (we both work from home). There is no way...without spending $700,000 here in Delray...for us to stay here and get a bigger home (and here that would only be one more bedroom maybe). Then comes the taxes on that house..and homeowner's insurance. Add in the fact that although I was raised here and ended up fine...South Florida is a much different place than it was when I grew up. We want better for our kids. Better schools and more opportunities for college. As well as the ability to experience the mountains, lakes or even the beach within a short drive's time.
We are moving to Fort Mill early next year. We are beyond excited and although we will be farther from my family, we will be closer to my husband's family. Making it equally easy to see them both. We are getting the house of our dreams for a little more than we will sell our house here. As for the market here...it has certainly picked up quite a bit in the last month. Every house that was listed in our neighborhood (10 of them) has sold but one. I think people are realizing that the market, although about 10-20% lower than last year's overinflated prices, is not going to bust as much as once thought. After a summer with no hurricanes...the snowbirds will be back. I think we will be fine.
I just wanted to share our story. It sounds like alot of us are in the same boat. If the woman who is moving to Rock Hill or any one else wants, feel free to private message me and I will be happy to answer any questions you have. We researched for over a year before we made the final decision so I have ALOT of info!
Good luck to everyone.

Update - Thanks for Replying
I just wanted to tell everyone that we finally moved to Rock Hill SC at the end of July.
We will be moving into our new home in a few days which is located in a small town called Edgemoor - which just a few minutes to rock hill.
We love it here. It is definetly different from South Florida - in a good way.
The only NEGATIVE thing I've come across is - My husband is Hispanic - He is from Cuba - Everyone here thinks you are MEXICAN just because you have a latin look - I am not latin but have a latin last name and you are discriminated against here - especially by government employees, the drivers license divisions, etc.... I have heard you are not treated differently in the bigger cities such as Charlotte, NC which is only about 15 minutes from where I am. But overall most people are Nice and Courteous.
I do believe that one of the problems here is that NO ONE IS TRAINED PROPERLY to handle the demands of the Immigration Laws and Requirements for obtaining Drivers Licenses and etc as they are in Florida.
Others have condemned the de-graded the schools here in South Carolina. I have to say - I am impressed with my childrens schools. The teachers are great, they all have concern for your children. I just received a postcard from one of my middle school children's teacher advising me of how well she has adapted here and how she is pleasure to have in class....THAT WOULD OF NEVER HAPPENED IN A FLORIDA SCHOOL - ESPECIALLY COMMING FROM A MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER!!! TEACHERS THERE JUST DONT CARE unless its an elementary school
We are a little nervous, and havnt gotten grounded here just yet. But overall I think its the best move we could of made ( i was actually born here). We visited Florida last week and couldnt wait to get back to south carolina.
Good luck to those of you who will be moving. If you have any questions I will try and answer them the best I can.
PS... to those of you moving to Fort Mill - My grandmother has lived there since I was a little girl (over 36 years) and its not very far from rock hill. Its a great place to live.
good luck

My wife and I were born and raised in N ft. Myers Florida, we just bought a home in upstate south carolina last year, Its not real Floridians that have negative things to say. most Crackers hunt there and are moving to keep our heritage, Florida has changed to New York South and is crashing just as it did in the 1920s.
