The taxes on my 2000 Chevy truck is more than the taxes on my house.
My 1997 car taxes are reduced due to the mileage. The mileage on the truck is low, because I can't drive both vehicles at the same time.

How many more years, before the taxes on the truck go down based on "age" and not miles?

If they are more then $75 I'd call and find out why. I have a 2001 Expedition and the taxes are only $50 on it. Has nothing to do with milelage, just age of vehical. More then likely something is messed up.

$75.88 and 87,000 miles.
My 1997 Mitsubishi is 175,000 miles and the taxes were $18.98.

I thought it had to do with mileage, not age. Had a car with 117k, and it was reduced due to the miles.

I just called the tax office.

A. The property taxes goes down each year until the vehicle is 15 years old. Mine is a 2000 pickup truck, so my taxes should go down next year. When it becomes 15 years old, the taxes will remain the same, depending on overall increases in the tax rate. We have to assume they will never go down only go up as time goes by.

B. They have my truck appraised at $3333.00. (rather curious number it seems, what happened to $3300, or $3350, or $3400?)
If I can go to a car dealer or Kelly Blue Book website and show the private party value is less than $3333.00 then I can get a reduction.

C. Tax is also based on high mileage, as well as age of the vehicle. My truck on has 87,000 miles. That's too low for a 12 year old vehicle to qualify on high miles.

D. My truck may have higher taxes than jamrasc's 2001 vehicle because taxes are based on the type vehicle (car or truck).

E. If a person is 100% disabled as determined by DMV, they can become property tax exempt.

If anyone has any questions about your vehicles call 803-684-8501.

That tax exemption is just on real estate not vehicles, boats, campers and other toys or so I was told.

Now I'm really confused! How can a 100% disabled person operate a motor vehicle?

You can own it and never drive it. A spouse or child could drive it --- or anyone else you allowed to do so, including a caretaker.

Howard, I hate to say this but when one entire year of property tax costs the same amount as a single tank of gas, it is really not that bad. My truck has nearly 200K on it and my tax is still over $200/yr.
