For some time, I have seen signs on 274 which advertise a planned 1,800 acre "mixed use development" (just what the area needs ).

Anyone have any details regarding this planned development?

A Google search has come up with little...

Where on Hwy 274 ... on Big Allison or Little Allison? There is a development on Big Allison called Wind Swept Cove ... across the road from that is something ... clearing the land ... paving roads ... it's lots of land it borders on Hwy 274 (Hands Mill) all the way over with entrance on Hwy 49 too. This land belongs to Crescent Land Developers, Duke Power's land company.

I haven't noticed any sign so this might not be the location. Wind Swept Cove is on Big Allison and next bridge going toward Newport is Little Allison. There is developments after you pass Little Allison on the left and right.

I believe the area you are referring to was to be the new corporate headquarters for Damilier (Freightliner). They were to relocate from Seattle and build a corporate campus on the site. The plan has been scrapped and I know of no future plans.

Thank you both, for your replies .

The sign remarks that they're building an 1,800 acre "mixed use development" - much like the Ballantyne concept.

The point of contact is Brian Tuttle (sp).

If you're coming from Newport, headed north on 274, the development signage is on your left.

Hopefully, it is as Belmarin says . I don't know that I'd look forward to another Ballantyne, or Baxter Village, there.

Apparently I dwell with Rod Serling in the Twilight Zone ... we built here 37 years ago and the only way out of our home is Hwy 274 (Hands Mill Rd) into Rock Hill, Lake Wylie and Charlotte ,,, and I haven't seen that sign ... but I am going to look for it.

Thank you Belmarin for that info. I knew about Damilier (Freightliner) when they scrapped their plans but darn if I was aware it was going to be in my neck of the woods.

This was pure boonies when we moved out of the city of RH. At that time the Catawba Indian Land Claim was raging with the Federal Government and this portion of York County up through Tirzah was not in the original reservation. So we were able to finance our home and get title insurance. That was a big problem back then with the tribe threatening to sue the homeowners individually located on the original reservation if the government didn't settle which they eventually did.

That article is five years old. Clover School District has been discussing building a new high school on some land off of Hwy 49.
