I don't know about a lot of the specifics of Lancaster, but know it's starting to gain some growth spilling over from Charlotte. They've just opened a Sun City retirement resort between Lancaster and Charlotte in Indianland. Housing prices/taxes should be very affordable in Lancaster.

The "panhandle" of Lancaster is seeing the most population growth and economic development right now, practically being an extension of the affluent Ballantyne area of Charlotte. Moving from Lexington, you shouldn't have a problem adjusting to that area.

Default Lancaster

I live in Lancaster and have done so most of my life. Its a fairly quite place. As far as your commute to Charlotte day-to-day, tis not that bad. Actually, I used to do it and my husband does it now. Many many people do this everyday. Depending on where you live depends on the drive. We live in S. Lancaster so it takes around 45 minutes to get downtown Charlotte. You will learn shortcuts that will make it even less of a commute. It doesnt take long to learn your way around. Charlotte is really easy to learn. This really isnt that bad considering that if you live N. Charlotte or NE. of mecklenburg Co. your commute time could be greater. I have worked with people who say this. They also are constantly adding new roads and widing exsisting ones so it is getting better. North Lancaster the Indian Land area is pretty much coliding with Charlotte and Pineville now, so the land value is increasing rapidly. I personally prefer the quite of the less populated areas. I cant see paying $350k for a house that I can look out my window and see inside someone elses window or spit on the side of my neibors house from inside mine. To me thats dumb. But its all about preference. Lancaster County truely has a place for everyone. Because you can live right outside of Pineville or you can live in the country or in the small city of Lancaster. Most of the people here are very friendly. It is a nice place to live. If you have any specific questions about the area I can probably help so feel free to ask me.
