We have heard conflicting information on the availability of competitive Internet providers in York and Lake Wylie. Can anyone shed any light on this subject? Thanks

Comporium is just about the only option. They have a complete monopoly on the area.

Until Google Fiber arrives, that is. CANNOT WAIT for them to arrive!

Google Fiber is heading to York county? I thought it was just in NC!

I understand Comporium offers its fiber product in York and Lancaster counties- within certain subdivisions (usually newer). They advertise a Gigabit Internet Service (1Gbps). Does anyone have experience with this offering through Comporium?

Their plan for the Charlotte metro area includes Rock Hill and other parts of YC.

My understanding is that it is just the City of Charlotte that is getting it for now:

Google Fiber plans frustrate residents outside Charlotte | The Charlotte Observer The Charlotte Observer

And a quote from the article:

Quote:
Asked about expansion outside the city limits on Tuesday, Google Fiber expansion
director Jill Szuchmacher said: “Right now we’re focused on the city of
Charlotte.”
They might expand it outside the Charlotte City limits in the future; but I don't think it will be soon(tm).

I'll have to check with my friend who told me it was coming in the first place. He has a friend that is working on the Google Fiber project (employed with Google) and got the inside intel that Rock Hill up to Charlotte will be included relatively quickly.
