We are are retired homeowners living in Indian Land Lancaster County SC. It appears from our county tax bill that we pay no school taxes. Is this true? None?
How it works in SC is that they back out the school operating costs from your property tax bill (only if the home is your primary residence). The cost of servicing the school construction bonds are still added to your property tax bill. I don't think that being retired factors into anything.
If the home is not your primary residence (i.e. you are renting it out); then the property tax rate goes to 6% of the assessed value and they add back in the school operating costs.
