Lake Wylie Plaza is a retail center located in the northern quadrant of the intersection of Charlotte Highway and Blucher Circle in the Lake Wylie community in York County, South Carolina. It is presently anchored by variety retailer Fred's #2163.
Fred's #2163, 4084 Charlotte Highway, Clover, South Carolina 29710
Fred's #2163 was previously a supermarket, Harris Teeter.
Fred's has announced store 2163 will close by Tuesday, 28 February 2017.
Before fred's took over I would assume Harris Teeter relocated to another location to service the Lake Wylie trade area. And sounds like Fred's was underperforming at that location as retail as moved to newer venues, according to the Herald report. And no possible replacement store yet pending.
Food Lion was in Waterside Market Place, 4034 Charlotte Highway, Clover, South Carolina 29710-8084. It replaced the Waterside Market Place store with store 1393, Bethel Commons, 5233 Highway 557, Clover, South Carolina 29710-8517.
Food Lion #1393 is struggling with supermarket Publix #1486, Landing Station, 158 Highway 274, Clover, South Carolina 29710-6045, and hypermarket Walmart Supercenter #5745, 175 Highway 274, Clover, South Carolina, 29710-6045, nearby.
Palisades is across the North Carolina state line. Is Harris Teeter planning to replace store 88, Steelecroft, 13000 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, North Carolina 28278-7489?
I can't see HT closing the Steelecroft store. That location seems to be busy all the time, and for it to pull out of that location would mean all that potential business would possibly spill over into Publix across the street.
My understanding us that HT acquired land by the Palisades several years ago. Not neccesarily to build, but to have the land "just in case". I could actually see them eventually building there, but keeping Steelecroft open. Especially since HT spent a ton in renovations at the Steelecroft location prior to Publix moving in.
Harris Teeter should be in position to open additional stores along the South Carolina Highway 49/North Carolina Highway 49 corridor. Increased residential density at Palisades should help support an additional store. I think Harris Teeter could do more business if it crosses the South Carolina state line with a new store in the Lake Wylie trade area.
I agree that HT will prob look at something in Pallisades, or just across Buster Boyd bridge. Definitely enough traffic to keep Steelecroft open as well.
Thanks. I will have to checkout Fred's going out of business sale.
