Not a new charge but an extra charge. The "local station charge" went from $8.05 to $13.06.

We really have no full definition of what that charge is and what the $ is used for. However is was an increase for that particular charge of over 60%. On the overall bill it was a 5% increases.

Inflation is running near 2% and many people like disabled, retired, etc. do not get pay raises from Trumps tax plan and we have no company to give us a one time gift of $1000 like many companies have been doing with the new tax plans. Shame on them. Maybe Congress should give every person on SSDI or SC a one time payment of $1000.

Not sure why people who don’t work should get a bonus from taxpayers but if you’re struggling to pay cable, local channels are free with an antennae.

Another excuse to charge the customer another fee.. Local channels are free with an antenna, so no need for Comporium charge. Get an antenna and tell them to drop the charge or drop the local channels.

But the local channels now charge the cable companies for carriage, so Comporium is trying to recover that fee. Used to be local channels allowed the cable services to retransmit their signals free of charge, but not anymore. That is why you no longer see WSPA carried on cable in the SC counties near Charlotte, as WBTV is the official designated channel, and they will only pay to carry one CBS channel. And WBTV is no longer carried in Spartanburg, but you can get a strong signal with an antenna.

Contacted Comporium about this because I am locked into a 2 year contract where my understanding (as has been in the past) is that fees were not supposed to be increased during the contract period. However, I am told this is an extra fee outside the bundle price and the fee to carry local stations has gone up by the provider who provides it via Comporium.

Must of been a pretty good hike the locals charged comporium for them to up everyone's bill $5 a month. Or maybe Comporium is using that as an excuse to jack everyone's rates up and blame it on the local affiliates. Anyone in the upper portion of Rock Hill/Fort Mill/Lake Wylie can get every single local channel for free with an antenna. At $13 a month, one would have that antenna paid for in less than 6 months.

We can not get by with the local channels only and Direct TV and the others do not have CNBC at the same price or lower than what we pay now.
We need cable-a-la-carte.
X dollars for a small package of locals and then maybe $1.95 per additional station of our choice, etc. That is supposed to be the way things might be when Google and others start streaming everything.

Can you drop the local channels from Comporium, I think that is what was suggested and get an antenna for locals. Keep the rest of Comporium that you need. We have DirecTV with locals two receivers, a third TV with a Winegard Amped Indoor antenna along with Roku.

Have you checked out Sling TV? Not familiar with it but they advertise a la carte TV.
