My wife & I are relocating to the Rock Hill area from Missouri due to a job change. I have to live in the Rock Hill, Lancaster, York, Chester, Tega Cay, Fort Mill or Indian Land zip codes. We have 3 young children so we area looking for a good location where we can get a good sized home (preferably 4 bedrooms) & some land for outside play. My wife home schools so that is not an issue for us. We like the living in the country but would like quick access to the city if at all possible. Our budget will be between $200 - $250k. Any suggestions?

If you'll consider York, then you should consider Clover as well. For your budget, you can get a very cute house with a decent yard in Clover. It's a bit more rural and does have the option of good schools should you eventually decide to stop homeschooling. Decent access to Steele Creek section of Charlotte, which has shopping and such.

I would take Lancaster, SC and Chester, SC off the list, personally, as they are a bit run down.

Agree with Girl above. Clover is a very nice area and encompasses a large swath of real estate generally from York to Lake Wylie. There are also nice area's south west of Rock Hill and between RH and York. You have to be careful looking at houses around the RH area as the city boundaries are not inclusive. Some streets are in the city where as the next road over may not be. To me there is no sense in paying RH city taxes all things considered.

There would be lots of options in the area between Clover and York, and York and Rock Hill in that price range and bedroom count. Access to South Charlotte would take you about 30-45 minutes, which would be perfect for the homeschooler to take the kids to museums and other educational places. You'd also be close to a ton of recreational sites on the lake and river.
Rock Hill is becoming a very popular location to settle in as the housing costs are lower than Fort Mill, and that is driving some great additions to the area like some really fantastic restaurants and the Rock Hill BMX Supercross track.
