Hoping to relocate to one of the above communities in the next 6 months but have some concerns about both. The eye cancer cluster in neighboring Huntersville vs. residing so close to the Catawba Nuclear Power Plant. I know that these fears are not entirely rational but I want to feel safe in my community and no worry about these environmental concerns. Curious if anyone here has struggled with the same concerns and how you overcame them or picked one of the two spots mentioned above. We have two kids one in college and one entering high school. Thanks!

Compared to background, nuclear plants emit negligible amounts of radiation. In any case, McGuire Nuclear power plant is in Huntsville and Catawba NPP is across the lake from Tega Cay so based on these choices, it doesn't matter.

Where you live in Charlotte should be based on where you are working. If that is not limiting you, I would consider the college considerations for your youngest. I live in SC but went to college in NC and I have a preference for NC.

I have lived in both communities. Davidson feels somewhat like a New England Village, while Fort Mill seems more “southern.” Each is a fine community with great schools. Fort Mill is growing more quickly it seems.

As to the potential environmental concerns you have, I’m not sure there is any consensus on the cause of cancer cluster yet. But, if you have concerns about it then it should be part of the equation in the end. Real or not, this issue may cause you to second-guess your decision down the road.
