We are moving to the area and are looking for some activities that would help my son acclimate to the community & make some friends (1st grader). What camps or activities are there for kids this summer in your area?

River Hills Country Club offers a short sports camp and the church, River Hills Community church has a vacation bible school. Links are as follows:

River Hills CC - HOME (call for more info)

https://www.groupvbs.com/webtoybox/mysite/default.aspx

also browse our local paper, Lake Wylie Pilot - Home Page for other area information.

Good luck. We moved here when my son was in 2nd grade. We got involved in sports and scouts and he loves it here. I hope y'all have the same experience. My youngest son will be in first grade in the fall.

Best wishes,
Renee

There are so many camps/summer activities around this area to list them all would be an overwhelming task. Many of the local papers run the lists in thier papers that you can view online (probably under archives section now), also try the Charlotte Parent Magazine. I might also add that the some of these fill up pretty quick around here too.

Here are a few that we have been involved in:

Leroy Springs Recreation Complex (Fort Mill)
Anne Springs Close Greenway (Fort Mill)
City of Tega Cay (Parks & Rec.)
YMCA (Fort Mill/Baxter Village)
Winthrop University (Rock Hill)

Don't forget some of the outdoor themed camps offered through Rock Hill's P&R Department. Look at Rock Hill Parks, Recreation, and Tourism

you can look here for the YMCA camps. We are thinking of sending our 9 year old to a few of them.
Hope this helps!
