We have our coverage through my husband's previous employer in NY, but I will tell you to make sure NOT to get a Medicare Advantage program. Even though they say it is accepted everywhere, very few doctors in this area accept it.

When I was gettiing ready to go an Medicare, I asked one of my friends who is a social worker in a large hospital. She said that straight "old" Medicare with supplements is best. I follwed her advice and have been very happy for 15 mos. She said the main advantage was in being accepted everywhere and when you are in the hospital and need some kind of step-down service. I have heard from others than AARP is very good, I have BlueCross myself and like it. There is a $100 deductible on the part that covers doctor's visits and I met that the first month. Maybe if you are very healthy and never see a doctor for routine care, an advantage-type plan would be cheaper. But I am diabetic and have high blood pressure - other than that, I'm healthy. I like what I have.

My husband and I have our Medicare Supplement with Bankers Fidelity and we have been pleased with the premium and coverage. My husband's policy just went into effect in January and he had to have surgery in February and after Medicare paid the Bankers Fidelity paid everything else. No money out of pocket for us.

Beware ... another poster has mentioned .... The Advantage Plan looks real real good on paper but not one of the docs or clinics we see accept The Advantage Plan. Not many hospitals either.
