Hi - I posted this in the Charlotte forum too. Got a few leads there so thought I'd try here too. Any recommendations on quilt shops/fabric stores in the area? My mom is an avid quilter and she'll be visiting in the fall (from VT). We love to hit the fabric stores as our way of spending quality mom/daughter time. Appreciate any information you have.

Default Quilter's Mecca

Without a doubt the best fabric store for quilter's (or anything else!) is Mary Jo's in Gastonia which is located approx. 18 miles west of Charlotte on I-85. It is right off the Cox Road exit and you can literally see Mary Jo's from the interstate. The store itself is rather tacky--lots of homemade signs, etc., but you absolutely cannot beat the selection and prices. It is very large and the section of cotton prints and calicos in the quilting section is vast and they also have all of the notions and supplies. Quilting clubs from other states come on chartered buses to shop there. Also, Mary Jo's has a terrific drapery and upholstery department as well as fancy fabrics (bridal and evening), woolens, including Pendleton, and all sorts of fashion fabrics, notions, and patterns. Another plus is that the sales staff are extremely knowledgeable and can help figure yardage and give sage advice. Hope you get to check it out!

There is a Fabric World west of I-77. Just google Fabric World, charlotte. A friend recommended it to me when I finally get down there.

But I am also anxious to see Mary Jo's as well!! It looks really interesting. We used to have a huge fabric store in Altoona, PA where we used to live and I LOVED going there! Unfortunately it went out of business quite a few years back. I'm glad to see that Mary Jo fought through all her troubles and kept open. I like to support the locals!
