If you dig music and are looking for something to do close to home this weekend, consider the Downtown Blues Festival in Rock Hill, Thurs Oct. 2 thru Sat Oct. 4.

Lots of artists will perform including Rock Hill native Sam Moore, aka Ironing Board Sam. Here is
performance footage, here is a local newspaper article, and here is an in-depth history of Mr. Moore and his long career in music.

See you there!

I went last year - it's a GREAT TIME! I wish they would have booked some different acts this year though, just for variety.

Bark, it will be way cool. Lou, so glad to hear you enjoyed it last year. I understand where you are coming from ('cause one can never get enough of the blues IMO) but I have to admit I'm just glad the RH Arts Council is able to cull enough local talent/enthusiasm/support to even be able to present this fest, given that the genre is (surprisingly) still not well-appreciated by the mainstream.

Just in case anyone is interested... Another regional organization that helps keep authentic blues alive is the Music Maker Relief Foundation out of Durham, NC. Music Maker celebrates and supports pioneers and heroes of the genre and assists in presenting these artists all over the country and world. These performances include shows in our area, often featuring great East Coast Piedmont Blues artists such as John Dee Holeman (http://facstaff.unca.edu/sinclair/piedmontblues/holeman.html - broken link).

Shrimp City Slim, a cool cat out of Charleston, does a great job in putting on a few blues fests over the course of the year in SC. He and his folks are down in Camden this weekend.
