My husband was recently hired by Winthrop University, and our family is moving to the Rock Hill area in January. I don't want to offend anyone with this question, as much as I'm hoping to find some kindred spirits, so please forgive if this is an odd question:
Are there particular pockets or communities in the Rock Hill area that tend to be more progressive than others? For example, areas/neighborhoods where people have a strong commitment to sustainability, local foods, the arts, etc.? What about schools?
There is a concentration of arts enthusiasts in the newly restored buildings on Main St., in the vicinity of the Arts Council building. Some of the artists live in the apartments/townhouses above the shops (and they are REALLY nice digs!). Other than that, I can't think of any particular neighborhoods to recommend. Don't limit yourself to subdivisions. There are some great established neighborhoods to be found, and the homes are built to last. Check out the area around Myrtle Dr/Eden Terrace/Milton Ave. Also, the Colony Drive loop and all of the streets within (a little less pricey).
Go to maps.google.com and take a virtual drive around town using "Street View". Almost all of our streets are now viewable from a "walking view". Have fun!
