lovethecarolinas..you have been very helpful to all on this forum. I hope I can impose on you again and get some feedback from you on Rock Hill if you have any. After looking at various real estate sites, it appears that there are many, many homes for sale. Decent prices as well-do you have any opinions of that area that you could share? Thank you

oh boy...let's see...Rock Hill was one of the areas we were looking at prior to our move. It is the largest city in York County. For us...the Fort Mill school district won out over Rock Hill school district. You are correct there are some great homes there (we have friends that live there) but Rock Hill also has a high percentage of rental homes. If you go far enough out you can find homes with acreage...which would not be a bad thing as long as you did not have to commute into Charlotte (it would be a ways to get to the 77) but I do know people do it. There are also some areas that need some improvement...and the city council has alot of internal bickering back and forth. On a brighter note there is some great shopping and eating there and Rock Hill is the home of Winthrop University.

As always, thank you. Schools are always a concern because I believe it is a wise decision to live in an area with good schools although I have no little ones left at home. I did notice that there was a university which interested me as my current job is at ASU and prior to that I was a VP in NY in an elementary school so you can see..my interest lies in education.
I am not really looking for acreage although a nice small fenced yard would be great for my pup. If you can think of any developments for me to "take interest" in, please let me know. I am very much interested in Tega Cay but it appears that homes for sale are few and far between. Fort Mill is always an option for me as well. Thank you again..you're just great!!

your very welcome tismekll. If you don't mind me asking...are you looking for new (and or resell), an apx. price range, 2 story/ranch? There are actually a lot of homes for sale in Tega Cay (new and resell) but if I knew a little more of what you were looking for...I think that would help in answering your question.

Hmmm..on different web sites, I'm not seeing much but I'm sure you know first hand. Either new or resell but preferably resell-a ranch would be great but it seems these days that they are few and far between. I would like the master at least on the first floor. It will have to be something that isn't a fixer-upper unless it is just cosmetic. I am still waiting for my house to be sold but I would imagine my top price would be $280,000. I don't need a large house as it will only be me and hopefully my sister and we each have a small doggie.
Thank you again..you are so helpful.

We were in Rock Hill 2 days ago...drove by Winthrop Univ. we thought North Rock Hill was "run down" but we drove to the next exit ,south, and was amazed at the beauty of the area. We are retired and in Sarasota,Fl and just got home yesterday, I think Rock Hill is for us, rather than the hustle of Charlotte. ( chasing our grown kids around the country)...Tom

Winthrop University is off of Cherry Rd (and if you can believe it the area from I77 towards Winthrop has been...somewhat cleaned up the last couple of years and now looks much better). The other street you are referring to is Dave Lyle (named after a local developer) and does give off a very nice impression. When it comes to Rock Hill it is the largest city in York County...so with that comes alot of everything (good, bad, developed, rural, etc.). You don't mention where the area is you are looking at in Rock Hill or where your kids have moved to....if you don't mind sharing as I am a little curious.

Tismekll:

Standard Pacific Homes is building new ranch homes in Lake Shore on Lake Wylie which is in Tega Cay if you were interested. The development goes by the name of Calloway and is pretty much surrounded by the Tega Cay Golf Club. They start out at $179k for a 3bd/2bth 1319 sq. ft. up to a 1923 sq ft 3bd/2bth for $223k. They all have 2 car garages 4 different models to choose from. Your lot sizes are probably not that big though. Just an option for you if you were looking a little further north.

Thank you for the information. I'll check that out

My son, with BankAmerica lives in the Mathews area ( very nice home) and Rock Hill is only 25 miles away...so those "emergency baby sitting requests" won't be a problem from there. The area we like is Exit 79 on Dave Lyle Blvd, also exit 85 on I77. Thanks for your help
