Does anyone know whats going on with the Fort Mill Southern bypass ?
It looks like they have surveyed again along Whites road, Dobys Bridge, and Banks road, with red tape on trees and stakes going off into the woods.

According to this construction will start next year.

Project Details

Planned Improvement: New two-lane alignment
Length of Project: 3.9 miles
Estimated Cost: $15.2 million
Justification

Traffic Volume: 2,600 to 11,300 vehicles per day; to increase to 14,100 vehicles per day by 2030
Safety: The major east-west movement of traffic is currently funneled through downtown Fort Mill on streets not designed to carry these traffic volume.

Purpose

To provide an alternate route for traffic that typically uses SC Hwy 160 from I-77 through the business district in Fort Mill
Reduce traffic congestion in the low-speed downtown area of Fort Mill
Planned Improvements

Construct a new two-lane facility, paved shoulders and ditches
Provide for bicycle traffic
Provide a new railroad crossing at the Fort Mill Parkway

Schedule

Planning: 2005 - 2008
Design: 2006 - 2008
Right-of-way: 2008
Construction: 2009 - 2011
