My wife and I would like to relocate our family down to the Lake Wylie West are From New Jersey. Can anyone tell me any pros and cons about the area, Schools, and life there in General. All we know so far is what feiends located in York and Lancaster told us, and what we have read and spoke top Realtos about so far. Plan to visit in next few months.

Thank you on advance
Mike

Slo, Lake Wylie West encompasses a large area ... both in NC and SC ... we have friends on the lake in Belmont NC (Gaston County) and friends on the lake off of Youngblood Rd (Mecklenburg County NC) and friends in River Hills (York Co SC) ... each area has different schools ... different tax bases.

If you are looking for SC ... the Lake Wylie SC area is technically still Clover, SC or zip code 29710 which is Clover as Lake Wylie has never incorporated like Tega Cay did due to the fact that the old guard, Bethel (they came over on the Mayflower ) has held out for years wanting the place to be named Bethel Lake Wylie.

Clover has good schools as does Fort Mill ... both in SC ... York would be my third choice in schools. Are you looking at new housing developments or older established neighborhoods? Will you be working in Charlotte? Check out Google maps and you will see how LW West is spread out. Maps

My fiance and I just purchased a home in Autumn Cove subdivision in Lake Wylie. As the pp stated, your community in Lake Wylie is technically part of Clover, SC (although some real estate listings will interchange Lake Wylie and Clover as the "city" so just be aware. The town of Clover is probably a 15 minute drive from Lake Wylie). We do not have kids, but understand the school system is very good, second to the top-ranked Fort Mill school district. We're right across the street from our local elementary and middle school and the district is building a brand new (huge) middle school less than 10 minutes from us, with another elementary to follow.
Taxes in South Carolina cannot be beat, especially compared to mecklenburg county. SC recently changed its property tax structure, too- increasing sales tax and decreasing property tax. This cut our tax bill for '09 by about 50%. That was a big consideration for us, if you are looking for more info you can check out yorkcountygov.com- the county's website. It was suprisingly useful and has a lot of practical info about living in the County.
We are about a 10 minute drive from a large, new shopping center in NC and there is a brand spankin new Lowes less than 5 minutes from the house. And it's about a 15-20 minute drive to the airport.

For us, it was a great decision. We came from a smaller town, so being really close to uptown was not a huge priority for us. We preferred to live in a community where we could get more for our money have a good sized yard. We've really enjoyed having the lake (literally) in our back yard and the nature preserve so close.
