Our family is moving to Fort Mill from Massachusetts. We have a 4, 6. 8, and 10 year old. The 6 year old is in Kindergarden. What is the curriculum like in K.
I have a friend who moved to Charlolle and her son is behind. My son is learning the basics such as letter names and sounds. Do they teach reading in K. We'll be moving in the summer and I need to know if I need to play catch up.::

We are moving to Fort mill as well with kids 4,7,7,9 and I met with the school. And they are great. They always have new kids and have great plans in place if your child does not yet have the skills they are teaching. You can also look at the cirriculum online at the fort mill schools web site. DO you know what neighborhood you will be in yet ?

Well, we moved here when my children were in the middle of their 2nd and 4th grades. We came from CA where they were both doing very well. Once they started the Fort Mill School District...we felt that they really had to step it up (which they have). Although I am not sure how the K classes are...I can tell you that they do have various specialists (reading, math, etc.) that work with the children (in unison with the teacher). In addition they have a GT program (Gifted and Talented) that children are tested for as well. I highly recommend that you (or anyone else for that matter) volunteer in your children's classrooms...just to see how well the system they have in place works.

Another thing I would suggest you do...call one of the elementary schools directly and find out what the Kindergarden curriculum consists of.

Best of luck to you!

If you are looking at schools within South Carolina....I also suggest folks take a look at the following site:

You might want to use the "Search" feature using Baxter or Baxter Village to see what has been stated in past posts (if I were you...make sure you go on the NC side as well...as people have also posted on that side too).

Or if you have done that already..and still have questions that might not have been covered feel free to ask away.

Take care!

I checked out this website - thank you for sharing it. I have a question that I'm not sure anyone on her would be able to answer but I'll put it out there anyway. . .why the significant increase in students below the average from 7th to 8th grade (7th = 10%; 8th = 20%) in math?
