Description: Built during Nederland’s historical mining days, this landmark offers hearty American fare. Funky and fun, the rustic inn is known for traditional, filling breakfasts, Mexican-accented favorites, great charcoal-grilled burgers, homemade green chili, and varieties of beer. When you come to the Pioneer, you get to hang out at the big bar with gritty local mountaineers as well as skiers and hikers who stop in to be part of the fun. Description: Perched atop the Nederland Shopping Center, Annie’s is a popular local hangout that serves eggs, pancakes, omelets, sandwiches, salads, and homemade soups. It is open for breakfast and lunch daily.

Description: This quaint coffeehouse is located in a redbrick house with a summer patio and decorated rocking chairs on the porch. Inside are tables printed with chessboards where customers can play, a sitting area with a tattered Victorian couch, and an old wooden ironing board holding the milk and sugar. Used books and new magazines are for sale, and the artwork is both original and daring. In addition to coffee you can buy herb tea, fresh scones, and specials such as mango-apple pie and Italian potato-vegetable soup. Locals come here for poetry readings, too. The cafe is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Thursday, and Friday; 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday; and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m on Sunday.

Located 17 miles from Boulder on Highway 119 (Canyon Boulevard), this German-American restaurant offers casual and fine dining. The menu includes a range of wild game and fowl, such as duck, elk, and goose, along with traditional German favorites like Wiener schnitzel and sauerbraten. Finish the meal with homemade German apple strudel and ice cream or the Kirschwasser on pineapple. Open daily for lunch and dinner.

Description: There’s a variety of Italian food here just 20 minutes west of Boulder in a cozy family-style restaurant. The stuffed shells are delicious, as are the tasty pastas covered in cream or marinara sauces and combination plates. Homemade garlic rolls are always a nice accompaniment. Neo’s serves an outstanding white pizza in addition to the traditional red—both are available with a variety of toppings. Reservations are taken, and carryout is available. Neapolitan’s is open for dinner daily and additionally for lunch Saturday and Sunday.
