Getting Here, Getting Around

During the early days, as the country began extending its tendrils to the Pacific Ocean, Louisville was a gateway to what would become known as the Wild West. Adventurers returning from those far-flung territories saw it as the portal to the East and the civilization it represented. After that, as its reputation as a manufacturing center became solidified, people started referring to Louisville as the Gateway to the South or the Gateway to the North, depending on their cultural and geographic leanings. Louisville, it seems, was always in the middle of things. Today, its geographic location makes it easily accessible from most parts of the country, and visitors find it a convenient destination whether traveling by plane, bus, or car. With its basic grid pattern and lack of urban sprawl, Kentucky’s largest city is also easy to navigate once you get here.
