1. Revere Beach

City: Revere, MA
Category: Tours & Attractions

Description: For a quick beach escape from the city, head north to Revere Beach. Established in 1895, this is the oldest public beach in the country. In its heyday during the early 1900s, Bostonians would flock to Revere Beach to enjoy ocean breezes, amusement rides, and dance pavilions. After its near demise in the 1970s, Revere Beach has been revitalized by the city of Revere and the Metropolitan District Commission, and the water and sand have never looked better. Take a nice long walk (the beach is 2 miles) on the wide, white-sand beach and enjoy the Atlantic surf and great people-watching. The beach is free and accessible by T (Revere Beach stop on the Blue line) or by car—there’s plenty of free parking. Afterward, head over to Kelly’s Roast Beef; the beach-side stand is a local institution.
