Description: The Corolla Wild Horse Fund is located in the historic Corolla schoolhouse, lovingly restored by Twiddy & Company Realtors. The Corolla Wild Horse Fund houses educational and interactive displays informing visitors about the delightful wild horses that roam the Outer Banks. Visitors are drawn to the beautiful photographs lining the walls. An interactive educational display interests adults and children. Call about special events held throughout the summer. The events for children are educational and usually involve a craft. A small fee is charged for the activities, but entrance into the building is free. Donations are greatly appreciated, and 100 percent of proceeds benefit the wild horse fund. A second location is housed in the Corolla Town Center.

Description: Located between the historic Whalehead Club and the Currituck Lighthouse, the 22,000-square-foot center is devoted to teaching the history of wildlife of North Carolina’s northeastern coastal region. A self-guided tour through the diorama of the marsh educates visitors about the regional ecology. Regional history is explored through the boating, hunting, and fishing heritage. Salt marsh ecology can be experienced firsthand. A wonderful film, Currituck, Life by Water’s Rhythms, shows regularly in the theater. Description: The storytelling hour is every Wed at 10 a.m. from late June through early Aug at the library. If you need to check out a book, the library is open year-round, Mon through Wed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Thurs from 3 to 7 p.m. You need a picture ID to check out books.

Description: In season Mon through Fri at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., the Whalehead Club hosts a kids’ search and find tour for ages 10 to 13. There is a small fee. A children’s treasure hunt for ages 6 to 9 is also held. Each child receives a prize. To participate, it costs $5 per child plus an adult admittance ticket. History, art, environmental awareness, geography and navigation, and many other subjects are covered. Also offered is a children’s art time held at 10 a.m. for ages 6 to 9. The art time is $5 and adults are expected to purchase an admittance ticket as well. A ghost tour is offered in season the first Sat of each month. The tour is held at 7:30 p.m. and costs $14 for people 8 and over and $7 for those under 8.

Description: Dolphin Watch Gallery features the works of owner/artist Mary Kaye Umberger. This artist creates hand-colored etchings on handmade paper drawn from scenes indigenous to the Corolla area, including wildlife, ducks and other waterfowl, seascapes, and lighthouses. Other art pieces here include pottery, stoneware, carvings of marine life, and wax sculptures (candles shaped by hand, with flower petals molded by the artist’s fingertips).
