Description: Specializing in single, tandem, and triple flights, this was one of the original parasailing locations on the Outer Banks. All vessels that give you your ride are Coast Guard–inspected and are able to take passengers up 400 to 1,400 feet. Parasailing is available from May through Oct.

Description: With surfboards and body boards, Duck Village Outfitters is surf-shop central for Duck. Surfing lessons are offered daily during the summer season. The shop conducts kayak tours every day in the summer and has a large assortment of rentals and retail items, including bikes, wet suits, fishing equipment, kayaks, and ocean toys.

Description: Single as well as tandem kayaks are available for sale or rent here. Prices range from around $15 an hour for a single kayak to $100 a week for a tandem kayak when used on-site. Open May through Oct.

Description: These folks will take you wherever you want to go in a kayak. Their preplanned tours are ocean kayak dolphin tours and scenic tours through the estuaries of Kitty Hawk Nature Preserve, Kitty Hawk Bay, and Ginguite Creek. The 2-hour soundside tours cost $33 for a single kayak or $59 for a tandem. Kayak rentals cost around $15 an hour or $20 for tandem models. Tours are conducted daily in the warm seasons, but call in the off-season and one of the enthusiastic guides will take you out. The shop is open all year.

Description: In recent years Duck has become one of the Outer Banks’ busiest sailing hubs and is among the easiest places in the area to learn to sail or take a calm cruise. Nor’Banks rents day sailers and catamarans hourly, by the half day, or daily and is open May through Oct.

Description: A division of Kitty Hawk Kites, Carolina Outdoors rents the Wind Rider trimaran, a stable sailing vessel, for hourly and daily rates. The lightweight Escape, a less destructible and more portable version of the Sunfish, is also available for rent or sale. The Escape is equipped with a Windicator, which sets the sail by measuring wind speed and direction. Wind Rider trimarans are also available to rent in Corolla. Call (252) 453-3685.

Description: North Duck Watersports is on the west side of Duck Road, directly on Currituck Sound. Sport boats, pontoon boats, kayaks, and bicycles are all available. North Duck is open spring through fall. Call for rates.

Description: Stop in Bob’s if you’re looking for advice on where to catch the really big one. The old building is left over from Duck’s early days, when a soundside dock out back was the distribution point for shiploads of fresh ocean fish. The shop carries a good supply of rods, reels, bait, and tackle. Bob’s also books offshore charters and provides a hunting and fishing guide service.
