Description: For dining in or for takeout, Jockey’s Ribs has been serving finger-licking barbecue ribs and more for over 20 years now. Entrees include lean and meaty slabs of pork ribs, hot and spicy barbecued chicken wings, roasted chicken, steaks, chops, chicken and rib combos, and seafood. The seafood is always a favorite. A children’s menu is available. Dinner is served nightly from 5 to 10 p.m. in season. Call for off-season hours.

Description: Mulligan’s can lay claim to serving some of the best burgers on the beach. The burgers are big, juicy, and tasty and come with a variety of toppings. Mulligan’s also serves steak, seafood, and an array of pasta entrees for lunch and dinner. A new steam bar, upstairs and downstairs dining rooms, and two full bars make this hopping restaurant a great place to visit when you are hungry and don’t want to wait forever on your food. Mulligan’s is located in a bright yellow building across the street and just south of Jockey’s Ridge. The interior is colorful and fun. A children’s menu is available. The restaurant is open year-round and has gone green, recycling glass, oyster shells, and more. Evening entertainment includes poker on Tuesday night and karaoke on Thursday and Friday.

Description: Just north of the Outer Banks Mall is Grits Grill, which has a strong local following. The restaurant offers a standard-fare breakfast and lunch menu plus fresh bakery items and fresh Krispy Kreme donuts. If you can’t live without your Krispy Kremes, make sure you get to Grits early in the morning, because they sell out quickly. Grits specializes in take-out orders and is open all year from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Description: Formerly known as Penguin Isle, Pamlico Jack’s is the latest restaurant in the local Kelly family host of eateries. This family-style restaurant has a killer deck and view of the Pamlico sound. Food is deliciously prepared by local star Chef Lee Miller, and the food is island inspired. Legend has it that Pamlico Jack traveled from the Caribbean to the Keys, and then the Outer Banks and back again! And the food samples the finest from each area. Adults will enjoy the Rum Jumper Bar, and the kids will find plenty to rave about. Open nightly. In-house artists provide caricatures for a fee.

Description: Sugar Creek is one of the most popular places on the beach for lunch and dinner. Eat at the full-service bar in this casual restaurant or sit at a table in one of the soundfront dining rooms. The seafood stew is extremely tasty and overflowing with shrimp and scallops. Marinated tuna is a must for fish lovers. Prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is lively and fun. Sugar Creek is open from Mar through Thanksgiving seven days a week. Next door at the Sugar Shack, you can eat at one of the tables or order great take-out food including pizza.
