Description: Don’t let this very short par 70 fool you: This course is tough. It is hilly. The rough is brutal. The trees are thick. The extremely tight fairways should encourage you to leave your driver in the trunk. And bunkers lie in wait for you on the green side on several holes. But these challenges—along with the spectacular setting and views—make this one of the most beloved courses in the area. Skamania Lodge Golf Course is about an hour’s drive east from Portland through the Columbia Gorge, and it’s attached to Skamania Lodge, on the north bank of the Columbia. The impressive views of the Columbia are reason enough to visit. Many Skamania regulars advise you to rent a cart because of the hills. It’s also recommended that you call two weeks in advance for tee times, but if you’re staying in the lodge, you don’t have to call so far in advance. To get there follow I-84 east to the Bridge of the Gods. This toll bridge ($1) will take you across the river, and from there, simply follow the signs.
