User-submitted facts and corrections:

  • Haverstraw, New York was once the main industrial site for the production of brick in the Northeastern U.S. The village itself is responsible for the building boom in New York City at the turn of the century. New efforts in development are occurring on the waterfront of Haverstraw, where promenades, townhouses, condos, boardwalks, piers, and world-class restaurants and museums are all being installed over a 10 year span of construction. The village is hoping to attract heritage tourism in the future, due to the area's rich historical value. From Dutch settlements to The Revolutionary War to the prosperous times of the early twentieth century, Haverstraw's history has everything to offer. The village has easy access to the Metro-North rail system via New York Waterway ferry that transports travellers across the widest part of the Hudson River.
