I, and my family, am a limited transportation consumer. Meaning, I either walk or bike (bicycle) to my destination. This store, and the family franchise of this store, in Paducah, KY, discriminates against such consumers through the drive-thru. I can understand the issue with being on foot, or even on a bike during peak business hours, both times the lobby is open and is (more often than not) a safer issue and avenue to acquire your food. However, their lobby closes at midnight (common practice among many McD's stores.) This leaves someone like me forced to either A: utilize the drive-thru (little to no traffic, otherwise), or B: go w/o eating, being that all other restaurants are generally closed by this time. They claim it under "customer safety," yet, will serve motorcyclists. If a customer is coming through the drive-thru at speeds to harm someone on a bicycle, they would hurt anyone in their path, regardless of the mode of transportation. That, and they're LEGALLY moving too fast to begin with. If they limit the way consumers can be served, why then, limit some consumers further by denying access/service because of mode of transportation? Should my bicycle have a motor on it, would it still be classified as a bicycle? or would it, in their eyes, be a "motorcycle?" This is an issue that the owner of this particular franchise chain needs to rectify before any further action could pose an embarrassment to his active venues. It's a simple remedy, either 1, open the lobby for all business hours, or 2, during lobby closed hours, do not discriminate against customers, simple as that.
