  • The profile rules state I am not allowed to repeat anything ever submitted on line about my soup counter, locally known as SPOONS. This is going to be a challenge as I have written about it five days a week, for nearly two years, on Facebook. Wondering if that counts. :) I recently received the most wonderful, of all compliments when one of my regular patrons described my little place as a 'neighborhood meeting place'. Most of my consumers have stood in line next to one another and have made some splendid contacts. It's a local networking venue that serves terrific home made soup, salad, bread and HUGE baked potatoes filled with some really interesting combinations. Spoons received first place "Best Taste" in Medford's annual Pear Blossom Festival "Smudge Pot Stroll" judged by the American Culinary Federation in 2012. Capers...my 'other' eatery received the same honor in 2013. I am competitive...and like to win. Spoons seating is limited to five seats in the Woolworth Building Lobby. Yet, the Lounge at Capers (right next door) is available for over flow. Vogal Plaza or Lithia Commons are an easy 1/2 block walk for a 'fresca' alternatives. Three soups are made daily, on a two week rotation. Thirty soups total using the best ingredients I can get my hands on, local when possible. 99.9% Gluten Free. Vegan Soup is available four days a week...I cheat on Tuesdays and use cream and butter. The Vegan soups were a challenge I conquered. I wanted them to taste just as good as the others. Done! The menu rotation was designed to insure I don't get bored. If I get 'bored' YOU get bored. The soup, salad, bread, potatoes and cookies are on a rotation. I reserve the two daily 'Nosh' choices to creative license. I 'need' to improvise something everyday to be sure I still have an edge. Mostly, I am having the time of my life. I was retired when this concept came forward, waited a year for the right location and PRESTO! I love feeding people...who love to eat. I love it more when I convert them from their traditional fast food lunch to a healthy alternative, knowing that what I put in their bellies is so much better for them. Most of all I love...giving samples...hearing the 'Mmmms' and then..."how am I supposed to decide?" This happens all the time and my regulars just chuckle...Cuz' they know this is tradition. I so... want to include my nightly Facebook tag lines here. If this gets bumped/disabled due to the language...so be it. This what I say to every new patron who walks in... Welcome to the Window... Soup's On!
