Coastal Bend College serves a nine county service area in South Texas extending from Pleasanton, TX just south of San Antonio down to Kingsville, TX home to the famed King Ranch and approximately 35 miles from Corpus Christi.
CBC's main campus is in Beeville located at 3800 Charco Road, with three satellite campuses serving the communities of Alice, Kingsville and Pleasanton. The college is a liberal arts college with a variety of bacculaurate track degree plans designed to articulate directly into a student's junior year at a four year institution. Currently, CBC has one of only two fully functioning glass-blowing facilities in the state among two or four year institutions of higher learning with a thriving visual arts program.
Additionally, the college has a strong workforce education presence and history within the coasalt bend region. The college is currently paying particular attention to the area of Allied Health Care Professions and has program offerings in the fields of Radiological Technology, LVN, LVN to RN bridge, RN, and Dental Hygiene. Coastal Bend College's Dental Hygiene program has a long-standing reputation as being one of the best of its kind in the nation, continually attracting students from as far away as Canada. THe college also offers one of the most advanced drafting and design programs to be found in any two year institution in the state. Graduates of this workforce program routinely apply their training and credit to advance their degrees and careers into the field of architecture. Located about an hour from the Texas Gulf Coast, Beeville offers the comfort and ease of small town living within easy driving distance of some of the very best Texas has to offer. Beeville was settled in 1835, by Irish settlers and is considered the gateway to the South Texas Brasada, Spanish for Brush Country, as well as the Texas Coastal Bend.
Easily accessible to Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Houston and Laredo, the challenge really is deciding what to do with your spare time. Of course, staying home is always an option. Known for it’s springtime wildflower display, Bee County is also known far and wide as a paradise for bird watchers and sportsmen alike. Oh yes, and we’ve got art, too.
Yes, art. Texas Monthly, in its September 2004 issue, named Beeville one of the four best small towns in Texas for art. The Beeville Art Museum is one of the reasons. The museum, funded by the Joe Barnhart Foundation, has exhibited some of Texas’ finest contemporary artists as well as collections housed at Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts and the San Antonio Museum of Art. The Beeville Concert Association’s annual concert season boasts everything from world renowned classical guitarists to nationally recognized mariachi performers. And the glass blowing facility at Coastal Bend College is one of only two of its kind among colleges and universities within the state.
Downtown Beeville is home to a thriving retail scene recently energized by the presence of the community’s Main Street program. Across from the newly refurbished and historically recognized court house is the state-of-the-art Joe Barnhart Bee County Library, technologically, one of the first of its kind in the United States.
Speaking to the community’s collaborative economic development efforts, Beeville has also drawn the attention of business and industry outside the state that are looking to re-locate a portion of their operations to the area. In the last year, Beeville has experienced significant growth in the retail sector -- a fact that is not going unnoticed among national site selectors eager to identify communities that offer their clients a desirable quality of life along with a cost of living sure to be attractive to business owners and employees as well.
