Per an April 23, 2023 report by WTVD:
JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Census data from 2020 shows Johnston County grew more than any other county in the state.

It's on pace to have one of the top five largest populations as well if the growth continues.
This is simply not true. Johnston County is not the highest growth county in NC by absolute population change. The Office of State Budget and Management in Raleigh states that between July 1 2020 and July 1 2022, the counties with the most absolute population change were as follows: Wake 41,938, Mecklenburg 27,908, Johnston 17,617, Brunswick 15,821, Cabarrus 12,792, Union 12,547, iredell 11,187. This is a measuring stick for only two years. A more accurate measure is ten years. In addition, as growth continues, sometimes counties become less enthusiastic about high growth due to the costs of building additional schools and traffic congestion and other things. The TV channel this reported this is very irresponsible. Anybody that studies population in NC would know that there is no way that Johnston county had the most absolute population change in NC. Unbelievable poor journalism.

You are correct. They were my words and I misspoke. The WTVD person did not say that. He said that Johnston had the highest percentage growth rate. Don't blame the TV guy.
