Thread for development throughout NC, since the 25 Largest Cities thread is starting to get a bit off topic (let's try to keep that focused on population figures, demographics, and the like). NO ARGUING. It doesn't matter that Charlotte is larger than Raleigh, or Raleigh is denser than Charlotte, or whatever. We're all just here to talk development.

I'll start since this was just officially announced a few hours ago. 19 stories, 375k sq ft total of office and retail coming to 2905 Griffith St in the lower South End area (right next to Suffolk Punch near the New Bern station). This will be much taller than anything nearby, no renderings out yet though.

Just published in the TBJ today. Multi-phase development is planned for an area around Dorothea Dix Park that will include two 20 story towers.

Other details for the project:
  • Developed by Raleigh-based SLI Capital and New York developer Mack Real Estate Group of New York
  • Located at the corner of South Saunders Street and Hammell Drive
  • The total cost across both phases is expected to come in at around $600 million for phase 1&2
  • The companies are hoping to kick off construction by the third quarter of 2022
  • Towers will be mixed use: apartments, office, and retail space

Would you do us a favor by saying what city this development is in? Don't assume everyone knows that it is Charlotte, or wherever.

Like I wrote to the other poster, please tell us what city the development is in. Don't assume everyone knows, as this is supposed to be a general North Carolina thread.

The South End development is in the South End area of Charlotte...the Dorothea Dix development is at the edge of downtown Raleigh...

I'll do my best to be more specific, but I suspect most people who follow these sorts of threads are already familiar with South End, Dorothea Dix Park, etc, due to how much they get posted in other threads on C-D.

SLI Capital is Bryan Kane, son of John Kane. Mack Real Estate Group is located in midtown Manhattan at Columbus Circle.

Interesting. $ 600 million isn't exactly chump change.

The iconic round Holiday Inn hotel in Downtown Raleigh isn't long for this world. Tidal Real Estate from New York has purchased the property for $20 million. They are also planning a 20 story tower 3 blocks away as well. They're very active in Nashville and looks like Raleigh will be their next new market. Pretty exciting.

There's way too many 20 story projects in Raleigh I wish some would mix it up a bit and go a little higher like in the 25 floor range.

That's what I was thinking. At this price tag, the design will probably be exceptional. Hoping anyway.

Nonetheless, with all of these New York firms rushing into the Raleigh market, it's leading me to believe that there are bigger corporate moves in the works, other than Apple and Google driving all of this activity.

Just today it was announced that a New York firm purchased the iconic Holiday Inn downtown.
