Description: In September 1865, only a few months after the end of the Civil War, August Siemering and H. Pollmar published the first issue of the weekly San Antonio Express. Daily publishing began in December 1866, with a subscription rate of $16 a year. Today this is San Antonio’s main daily newspaper. The San Antonio Express-­News covers weather, local events, business, and sports in addition to local and national news. Description: This newspaper is published weekdays (except legal holidays). The Commercial Recorder is a great source of public notices and public records taken from Bexar County courts, including court transactions, liens, and bankruptcies. The paper also publishes such business information as the granting of beer and wine permits, building permits, and sales tax permits. Copies of the Daily Commercial Recorder are available at several locations around the Bexar County Courthouse. Readers may also subscribe to the paper for $150 a year.
