The Mountain Station

The Mountain Station is the upper level area where the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway stops. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway begins in Palm Springs, California and runs up the Coachella Valley to the top of San Jacinto Park. The Mountain Station is an area in which visitors can get off the tramway to view Palm Springs, Coachella Valley, and the nearby peaks from a higher perspective.

The tram ride is eight and a half minutes to the top. The ride begins at Valley Station which is at 2,643 feet elevation. The tram passes over one of North America's steepest mountain faces moving through different ecosystems to the top at Mountain Station. Mountain Station is at 8,516 feet above the sea. The floor of the train cars is 18 square feet to allow a maximum capacity of 80 passengers separated into groups in each tram car.

The tram cars were replaced in 2001 to offer better cars for 360 degree views. Both the Mountain Station and Valley Station have the same architecture. The Valley Station was built by Albert Frey and Robson C. Chambers between 1949 and 1963. Tramway Mountain Station was completed in 1961. E. Stewart Williams designed the Mountain Station building, using the same basic structure as the Valley Station.
