...I predict Florida is heading to another budget surplus

"Florida confirmed a record-breaking 140 million total tourists in 2023, despite previous projections that the year saw a slight decline in numbers."

"Visit Florida also reported that the state saw its highest quarterly number of visitors in 2024’s Q1, with 40.6 million tourists."

"Out of the record breaking year, domestic visitation reached an all time high of over 129 million people. Florida also welcomed in 8.3 million overseas visitors and 3.2 million Canadian visitors."

“Florida’s world class attractions, hospitality, and unwavering commitment to freedom have solidified our position as the top vacation destination,”

Lol. Probably half of them are people coming for a visit to scope out the state for their potential relocation.

It’s crazy—I’ve been seeing lots of out-of-state license tags here in Gainesville, which is wild as we’re really not considered a tourist destination. And this is summer break too so certainly not students.

I was just down in Port Charlotte, and it seemed like half of the cars had out-of-state plates.

Half the cars I see here in Tampa (when I am here) are either New Jersey or California tags.

Come on DOWN New Yorkers and Californians! Plenty of room for you here.

The people coming here seem to be increasingly affluent too, & the Canadians returned in force this Season.

The Europeans have not returned like we hoped.

I get updates from the county commission and for 2023, slightly more than three-quarters of a billion dollars was spent in Alachua County by tourists. This compares with half a billion in 2022. The headline: “The Tourism Industry in Alachua County is More Substantial Than Many Imagine.”

I just spent 2 weeks in Europe and had a conversation in Rome with a local who started saying how amazing Miami and Orlando was when he visited. It's funny because here, so many romanticize and dream of moving to Rome. This guy was dreaming of moving here. People often want what they don't have. Its funny human nature works like that.
