Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case's Thought For The Day: The Eye Of What Beholder?

Posted Yesterday at 08:40 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Time once again for our Thought For The Day. Where will this excursion take us to now?

Perhaps it's to a place where you have your eyes on something. Maybe it's a someone. How do you view that person or thing? Is it attractive? Is it pleasing? Now, of course, this is highly subjective, as what one finds beautiful might wind up as something different to another. All of which brings us to this, our Thought For The Day:

Beauty is in the...

With Few Exceptions, A Lot Of Things Haven't Gone Right For The 2024 Astros

Posted 04-23-2024 at 07:17 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Many sports fans and sports pundits are just sitting there wondering one thing: Is the Houston Astros' dynasty about to end?

You could say that it's a dynasty, and expectations going into the season had been high. Until the Astros actually get dethroned from the top of the American League West division, they'll be picked to win it. Many picked them, including your writer. The baseball season, mind you, is still early, but already, this year's Astros...

Finding Certain Products Online Brings Up Many Questions

Posted 04-23-2024 at 06:18 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

All I really wanted was to order some fudge pecan topping. Not just any fudge pecan topping, but the kind you get at a place called the San Saba River Pecan Company. That's in San Saba, Texas.

This thing started on a trip I took to San Angelo last fall. I came away from that trip with two jars of the San Saba River Pecan Company fudge pecan topping which were sold at Eggemeyer's General Store. That's how I know about the product, and it was so good. At the...

Sometimes, Your Writer Just Has Impeccable Timing

Posted 04-18-2024 at 03:43 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This coming Sunday, your favorite blogger is going to be headed back to Austin for some more college baseball at the University of Texas' Disch-Falk Field. On my way down there, there's going to be a grand opening happening just as I'm on the road.

Buc-ee's in Hillsboro will be opening its doors.

Central Texans in that sector will be loving it. So will this writer, but I'm willing to bet that the place will be crazy crowded that morning as I tentatively...

Updated 04-13-2024 at 12:52 PM by case44

Folks, sometimes, you've just got to love these "What if...?" posts. Sure, we've had "What if...?" thread starters on the forums, but your favorite blogger has decided to present a "What if...?" blog post. After all, doesn't anything we do in life begin with a single thought?

Here's my expanded thought for you: What if Lubbock, Texas, had a full metropolitan area? Now, it is a metro of sorts, but it's a long way from...
