Seeking my father

Posted 02-17-2012 at 10:27 PM by DanielleNOlive081985

I am 26 years old and have never met or seen my father. I have very little information on him, and i'm not sure whether its accurate or not. I don't really have much to go on, but I figured I'll post what I do know and maybe someone out there can help me. His name is Jerry Allen Simmons birth date on or near 9-23-1960 and he may be somewhere in the Ohio or even Indiana Area. My mothers name is Clarise Olive and they never married. Basically I was born in Columbus, Ohio, and moved here with my mother and family when I was only a few months old and I don't really have much information to go on except what I have been told from my aunts that my father was married to someone else when he was seeing my mother.

It looks as though you actually have quite a bit to go on. If I were you, I would go to your public library and ask the research librarian what resources they have in genealogy searches. Since you have his name, approximate birth date, and region, you should be able to see his birth certificate, and that will take you to the specific court clerk the birth would've been filed with. From there, you can look for through the phone books of that time, probably now on line, but you might have to shuffle actual pages or microfiche. You would look for his parents names, and then search the regions newspapers for those names (births, deaths, news-worthy events). Each find will narrow you to a more specific location, hopefully. My experience with friends in the Midwest is many stay pretty close to home.

Eventually, you will have to call people and ask if they know the person's name, and if so, where he might be found. I probably would not say I was his daughter from an illicit relation, just that my mother was a friend and has something that belonged to him and you want to return it. (People don't like to get involved in other's personal business, but helping someone retrieve a lost article is a gesture of kindness they would be more inclined to assist with.

    Good luck.
