Only to be with You

Outside our sunroom windows, behind the drawn blinds, comes the rising lilt of U2's "Only to be with You" from the painters' radio. I sit here at this magic box, listening, remembering.
All my life I've felt that a kinship with others was possible, just beyond my present reach. If only I kept reaching, kept trying. Time after time, my reach is just too short. Or, perhaps the other just wasn't trying. I don't know.
Is this the secret of life, that God really brought humans to the world that He might have company to share in His joy of it, and as we are a stiff-necked people we turn from him to life's distractions. Does God perpetually reach to US, and because WE just were not trying to make that connection -- merely giving it "lip service" it is HE that is continually denied?
Lord, let me stop reaching for others inattentive presence and turn me to you where life's pleasures may be more fully enjoyed, together.
To only Be with You.
