Start Making Healthier Meal Decisions This Month

Not only is March Nutrition Month, it's also Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know that healthy eating and physical activity can help prevent several diseases, including colorectal cancer? Indeed, studies have revealed that a balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and milk has been linked to a decreased risk of colorectal cancer. However, if you are like most Canadians, you probably aren't eating enough of these precious foods.

According to the CCAC, colorectal cancer is the second most likely cause of death for men and the third most common cause of death for women. It's also the number one cancer that can be prevented through maintaining a healthy diet. That's a very good reason to adopt healthier habits.

Here are some healthy eating tips to get you started:

1. Oatmeal rules: Oatmeal is quick and easy to prepare and is a lot more nutritious than most breakfast options. Bonus points if you prepare it with milk instead of water, and don't forget to top it with fruit!

2. Eat your greens: Chop up crudités for the week and store them in the front of your fridge for easy snacking.

3. Swap your regular coffee: Try a café latte, since the hint of milk you might add to regular coffee is far from the recommended serving of 250 ml (1 cup); the calcium and vitamin D in milk are two key nutrients that could help prevent colon cancer.

4. Tea is your beverage of choice? Steep your tea in warm milk and add a touch of vanilla for a nice London Fog.

    Hi, I want to share some simple things which will make you healthier and stronger (based on my own experience):
    1. Use one glass (200 g) of mineral (not sparkling) water in the morning before breakfast;
    2. 10 minutes of yoga & meditation every day(morning, evening - never mind!!!) Why yoga? Because it gives you strength, flexibility, and mind-body awareness. You can find a lot of free yoga exercises in the internet. Choose 10–15 minutes video and easy to do exercises (as for me I’ve bought very comfortable and effective for me Yoga Burn programme);
    3. No alcohol!!! try do not use alcohol for 28 days - you will lose from 1 kg to 4 kg!!! during this period without any diets!!! After 28 days you can start drinking (if you want) but my recommendation - only dry wine (no more than 200 - 250 g a month);
    4. Eat at home!!! It's one more very important & the most difficult thing to realize. Find easy cooking recipes on the internet, cook for yourself, but remember- you should use only fresh organic products! Here the list of everyday ration: grilled meat (mainly beef and chicken), baked fish, fruits, vegetable salads with olive oil, natural honey (not a lot - from 1 to 2 teaspoons per day), black chocolate (instead sugar), cottage cheese, boiled eggs, tea with ginger or mint. As for me I usually prepare my food for 2 or 3 days in order not to spend every day in the kitchen. Breakfast and supper - at home, lunch - at work (bring in containers);
    5. Use dietary food supplements, but before using consult a specialist because some of them have contraindications. One more important thing - you need a professional advice about each product you are going to use.
    6. Eat every 3 hours - 250- 300 calories per one eating.
    6. One more thing - self-motivation: read and educate yourself about healthy eating, find out new different weight loss programmes, articles and courses. It's not mandatory to do everything you read, the main idea to find things which seem good and comfortable for your health & lifestyle.

    In today society many cultures lose the edge of staying healthy and maintaining a great body. I worked out and tried many different programs and like you, I was mad and upset because nothing was working for me.     I'm 30 years old with 5 Kids! Honey let me tell you! I was 178 with high blood pressure and considered obese for my height! I have no time for the gym because the age gap of my kids and working and running around with them left me no time for anything other than church!
