Weather Alerts To Cell Phones
EVERYONE should have alerts sent to their phones. I would use one of these below or an addition to that. They send one as soon as NWS issues it and don't flood you with alerts like some news stations do.
All you need is a phone number and a cell phone capable of texting(which most do nowadays)
The Weather Channel Text Alerts was my favorite and the best until they dropped Sprint. I haven't check back in a couple years but looks like the whole process seems more time consuming. They want you to sign in and I can't find a direct link. If you have more info, let me know.
USA Weather Text Alerts
weatherUSA - Free Weather Alerts for Text Message and E-mail. I only get the text alerts from them
Accuweather Email alert(if you have a smart phone you'll get the email alert on there). I have this as well as USA Weather. So I get an email and a text to ensure I got the alert.
Here's a long list from NWS of who provides alerts. I haven't looked at all of them but don't be overwhelmed, just stick to 1 of the first 3 I listed and you'll be fine
And in 2012 they finally implemented the mandatory emergency text alerts. Something I had been saying for years before since everyone has a cell phone, nobody should be "surprised" at a weather event.
