Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Case's Vacation Journal: Oink If You've Heard This One
Sometimes, trips do get strange. Two nights ago, I stopped at one of the newest Sunoco gas stations in Corpus Christi on South Padre Island Drive at Old Brownsville Road to fill up the gas tank for my journey the next day. Just getting some gas, that's all. Well, some news broke just a few short hours after I filled my tank.
The next day, the local news reported that a stray pig was running around on the gas station property. That's right, sports fans, a pig!
It looked like it had been beat up or abused, since the animal had a few scrapes on it. And spare me the barbecue jokes. Now, since then, it had been picked up by animal control and is in a temporary home. But to think if that pig had been on the property the night before....
Other items of note for the restaurants in the area:
Catfish Charlie's - 5 stars (good catfish despite ordinary batter breading, spicy hush puppies, good fries, wonderful red beans)
Acapulco Restaurant - 5 stars (big portions for breakfast, large breakfast tacos, good sides, very good refrieds)
Pepper's (McAllen) - 5 stars (third visit in 2 years, best burger in RGV with wonderful charbroiled mesquite flavor, service lacked a little on this visit)
Landry's (Corpus waterfront) - 5 stars (good salad, excellent fried shrimp, tasty sauteed spinach, so dang what if it's a chain)
And no pig sightings at local restaurants. No need to swine and dine.
Two more days in Corpus before heading back to Dallas. If anything breaks, then I will chime in.

That Acapulco Restaurant, that was good. Coffee was average, but then, most restaurants have average coffee. But be warned: the breakfast tacos are humongous. You can order one, but I wouldn't recommend two unless you are a huge offensive lineman.Posted 02-09-2017 at 04:55 PM by case44

To add to the reviews,
Town & Country Restaurant - 5 stars (sausage patties and links seasoned and good, fantastic eggs and hash browns, biscuits had good texture, good gravy, coffee somewhat better than the aforementioned stops)
Water Street Oyster Bar - 5 stars (service great, equally great sea scallops, salad had a flavorful walnut dressing, memorable whipped garlic butter for the fresh bread)
